Nanotechnology
Alliance Preservation and C2M have worked with several universities in the development of concepts for nano masonry preservatives. Nano size particles can penetrate the masonry pores that other materials cannot reach. Thus the preservation enhancements and processes can solve the previous problems of conservation without disfigurement or damage an external application could have produced.
Nanotechnology is also in widespread use in glass coatings as self cleaning surfaces.
The technology has many other future uses.
However nanotoxicology is also an area to research in the possible effects of small particle size on health and safety when used inside a building.
